We hear all the time that we need to invest in our earthly retirement, but how often do we think about investing in our Heavenly Retirement. Since Holy Name is located on 11th and K, our service to the poor can be your investment in your heavenly retirement plan or 401Kst. Our service opportunities include helping in our pantry which is open the Tuesdays from 5-7pm and Thursdays from 10-12 of the second and fourth full weeks of every month, as well as supplying bag lunches for the poor on our off weeks or by donating to the church. We will also be looking for volunteers to teach English on Sunday mornings and or Friday evenings for the new ESL (English as a Second Language) program we are looking to begin in the Fall.
We rarely think of evangelization or spreading the gospel as a form of community outreach but it is really the most important kind. Mother Teresa once said that while our country was materially rich, it was the most tragically spiritually poor. What will do more lasting good, feeding a materially poor person or bringing a spiritually poor person to Jesus Christ? I’m sure all of you know some spiritually poor people. Why not invite some of them to come to church with you for Easter. There are a lot of spiritually poor people hungering for Christ who are just afraid to look for him on their own. Be that friendly face that gives them the invitation they’ve been looking for. You can print out a flyer with our mass times and an invitation letter here.
